# WebEgg — AI website builder for local businesses > WebEgg is an AI website builder that generates complete multi-page websites for real local businesses — restaurants, photographers, contractors, wedding sites, community organizations, small services — in English, Spanish, French, or Portuguese. Sites are deployed live on Cloudflare in minutes, and the business owner can edit them by chatting with an AI, no code. **Site:** [webegg.ai](https://webegg.ai) **Languages:** English · Español · Français · Português ## What WebEgg does WebEgg builds a full website from a short business brief — not a single landing page. Every site comes with a home page, an about page, a services or menu page, a contact page, plus optional gallery, pricing, FAQ, or events pages depending on the business type. Each page shares the same nav, footer, fonts, color palette, and overall design system, so the site reads as one coherent brand instead of a string of disconnected templates. The brief is collected through a short guided funnel (the operator answers ~10 questions about the business) or through Express Mode, a chat-style interface that asks up to seven questions chosen for that kind of business, based on whatever the operator types in. Once the brief is in, WebEgg's generator writes the site, deploys it to Cloudflare Pages — typically one to three minutes — and sends the operator a preview link. From there the operator can connect a custom domain (their existing email stays exactly where it is), edit any section by chatting with the built-in AI editor, or publish the site as-is. ## Who WebEgg is for WebEgg is built for the operators of real, offline-and-online businesses — the kind of business that historically gets ignored by SaaS-template-driven website builders. The wedge: - **Restaurants and cafés** — menu page with photos, location and hours, online reservation block, gallery of the room - **Service businesses** — plumbers, electricians, contractors, cleaners, mobile mechanics — services list, service-area map, contact form, before/after photo galleries - **Photographers and creative services** — portfolio gallery with masonry or grid layouts, booking page, packages, testimonials - **Wedding sites** — invitation hero, RSVP form, venue and travel details, registry links, photo gallery - **Community organizations and non-profits** — mission statement, programs, events calendar, volunteer signup, donation CTA - **Personal brands and creators** — bio, projects, contact, links page (HatchLink mobile-first layout) Generic SaaS landing pages with purple gradients are not the target. The system prompt explicitly bans the visual clichés ("modern", "professional", "elevate", "passionate about quality") that other AI website builders default to. ## What makes WebEgg different **Multi-page, not single-page.** Competitors like Durable and Mixo generate a single scrollable landing page. WebEgg generates a real multi-page website with shared design system across all pages — closer to what a hand-built site looks like. **Native multilingual.** The funnel, the generator, and the editor all run in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese. Operators in Mexico, France, Brazil, Quebec, or Senegal build sites in their language end-to-end, not just translated marketing copy. Most AI website builders are English-only. **Custom domains without breaking email.** Connect a domain through CNAME or full DNS in 2-5 minutes. Existing MX, SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records are left alone, so the operator's existing email keeps working. SSL is automatic. **Real local-business templates.** Wedding sites, restaurant menus, service-area maps, photo galleries, event pages, and FAQ sections that match how each kind of business actually presents itself — not the SaaS hero-features-pricing-CTA template. **Editor that talks back.** Edits are made by chatting with the site ("make the hero bigger and use the photo from the gallery"). The AI interprets, makes the change, shows a preview. The operator never sees a code editor or a block-based builder. **Mobile app for editing on the go.** iOS and Android apps let operators check their site stats, claim domains, edit content, and respond to form submissions from the phone they already use to run their business. ## How a site gets built 1. **Brief** — operator opens [webegg.ai](https://webegg.ai), enters their business name, what they do, where they're located, what makes them different. ~10 questions, ~3 minutes. Or uses Express Mode: type one prompt and answer up to seven questions chosen for that kind of business — a contractor is asked for its license number, a restaurant for its hours and menu, a clinic for the insurance it accepts. Whatever is skipped lands on a "Finish your site" list in the editor. 2. **Generate** — AI writes the full multi-page site from the brief, deploys to Cloudflare Pages, sends the operator a preview URL. Typically one to three minutes. 3. **Edit** — operator opens the preview, chats with the AI editor to refine. Inline edits (change a phone number, swap a photo, rewrite a headline) take seconds. 4. **Claim** — operator creates an account, connects a custom domain (their own `restaurantname.com` etc.) or buys one through WebEgg, and the site goes live on their own URL. 5. **Run** — operator manages bookings, form submissions, content updates, and basic stats from the dashboard (web) or the mobile app. ## What WebEgg is not - **Not a designer tool.** Framer, Webflow, and similar tools are made for designers who want pixel control. WebEgg is the opposite: the operator describes what the business does, the system designs it. - **Not a SaaS landing page builder.** If you need a Stripe-style developer-tool landing page with purple gradients and KPI cards, use Vercel v0 or a Tailwind template. WebEgg is aimed at the small-business surface those tools don't serve. - **Not a hosted blog platform.** WebEgg generates a marketing website, not a CMS. (Blog pages can be added per-site, but ongoing content publishing is not the primary use case.) - **Not free forever.** Preview sites are free to generate and view. Keeping a site live — custom domain, dashboard, AI editor, hosting — is a flat $20/month (Growth) or $30/month (Business). No setup fee, cancel anytime. ## Stack and infrastructure - **Generator:** a chain of frontier models (Anthropic Claude plus partner models through OpenRouter, with automatic fallback), with a custom system prompt encoding ~15kb of design discipline (typography rules, anti-cliché lists, hero composition rules, color strategy, accessibility requirements). - **Hosting:** Cloudflare Pages. Every site is deployed to a unique preview URL on `*.webegg-previews.pages.dev` initially; custom domains are CNAMEd or use full DNS to the same Pages project. - **Backend:** Flask on Railway with a persistent volume (SQLite + JSON) for leads and accounts. Stripe for payments. - **Mobile app:** Flutter (single codebase for iOS and Android), built with Codemagic. - **Analytics:** Microsoft Clarity for session recordings and heatmaps (gated by GPC / DNT / CCPA opt-outs). Meta Pixel for ad attribution (same gating). - **Privacy and compliance:** GDPR-compliant data export and deletion. Every generated site ships with a personalized privacy policy and terms of service. Global Privacy Control honored. ## Pricing - **Preview:** free. Generate the site, open it, click through every page, try different looks. - **Growth — $20/month:** your site live on your own domain (one domain registration included), the AI editor, hosting on Cloudflare, dashboard, bookings and form submissions. No setup fee. Cancel anytime. - **Business — $30/month:** everything in Growth plus more sites, a larger AI-edit pool, team seats, API access and priority support. - Prices are in USD, billed monthly. Existing subscribers keep the price they signed up at. ## Edit from Claude or ChatGPT (MCP server + REST API) Every claimed WebEgg site exposes an MCP server (`https://webegg.ai/mcp/`) and a REST API (`https://webegg.ai/api/v1/…`, OpenAPI at `/api/v1/openapi.json`). Add the connector in Claude (claude.ai, the desktop app, or `claude mcp add` in Claude Code) or in ChatGPT (Connectors in developer mode, or a custom GPT Action), then ask the assistant to change the site: it can list your sites, read and search pages, make precise find-and-replace edits, replace a page, finish onboarding to-dos, undo, and publish. Edits made this way run on the assistant's plan — they cost no WebEgg AI credits. Setup guide: [Edit your site from Claude or ChatGPT](https://webegg.ai/docs/connect-claude-chatgpt.md). ## Frequently asked questions **What is WebEgg?** An AI website builder for local businesses. Describe the business, answer a few questions specific to its kind, and get a complete multi-page website published to a live link in one to three minutes. **How much does WebEgg cost?** Previewing is free. Keeping the site live is $20/month (Growth) or $30/month (Business). No setup fee; cancel anytime. **How long does a build take?** Typically one to three minutes from the last question to a live preview link. **Can I use my own domain?** Yes — connect an existing domain (CNAME or full DNS, your email keeps working) or register one through WebEgg. SSL is automatic. **Can I edit my site from ChatGPT or Claude?** Yes, through the MCP server or REST API described above. Those edits use your assistant's plan, not WebEgg credits. **Does it work in Spanish?** Yes — English, Spanish, French and Portuguese, end to end. **Which businesses is it for?** Restaurants, contractors and trades, salons, gyms, clinics, law firms, real estate, auto shops, photographers, agencies, shops and brands, nonprofits, schools and tutors, pet services, software startups, hotels and venues — each with its own question set. **How is it different from Wix or Squarespace?** WebEgg writes the whole site from a brief and publishes a fast static site; there is no template picker or drag-and-drop builder, and no editor runtime slowing visitors down. ## Documentation - [Connect a custom domain](https://webegg.ai/docs/custom-domain.md): Two-step CNAME setup that takes 2-5 minutes at your registrar. Can’t find what you need? Email [support@webegg.ai](mailto:support@webegg.ai) — same-day reply. ## Can my site handle a lot of traffic? Yes — effectively unlimited. Your published site is hosted on Cloudflare’s global network (the same infrastructure that runs Stripe, Discord, and around 20% of the web). Pages load from the edge location closest to each visitor, anywhere in the world. Cloudflare absorbs spikes of millions of visitors without slowing down. To give a sense of scale: - **Typical local business site** — 100–2,000 visitors/day. We’re at <0.001% of capacity. - **Regional business with paid ads** — 10,000–100,000 visitors/day. Still trivial. - **Featured on local news** — 50,000 visitors in an hour, 2,000 contact-form submissions during the spike. The site serves instantly; the form queue drains in 2–3 minutes without anyone seeing an error. ## How is my site different from a Wix or Squarespace site? WebEgg generates a real static website — clean HTML, CSS, and JavaScript hosted on a global CDN. That means: - **Much faster page loads.** Wix and Squarespace load a heavy editor runtime in the browser *even for your visitors*; we don’t. - **Better SEO scores** on Lighthouse / Core Web Vitals, which Google ranks against. - **No template lock-in.** You fully own the design — we’re not selling you a starter kit. - **Lower ongoing cost.** No editor bloat to host means no per-page bandwidth charges. ## Do I actually own the website? Yes. The HTML is generated specifically for your business and hosted under your own custom domain (if you connect one). If you ever leave us, you can export your site as a zip file with one click and host it anywhere. We don’t hold your content hostage. ## How long does it take to build? The initial preview is ready in **about 60 seconds** after you fill out the funnel. You can see, edit, and publish it the same day. Connecting a custom domain takes another 5–30 minutes for DNS to propagate. From signup to a live site at `yourbusiness.com` is usually well under an hour. ## Can I edit it after it’s built? Yes — that’s the whole point. The AI editor lets you describe changes in plain English (“move the contact form below the testimonials”) or directly click any element to edit it. You can also: - Swap images by clicking them (one-tap Replace button) - Change colors and fonts site-wide from the Styles panel - Add or remove sections and pages from the dashboard - Update SEO titles, descriptions, and Open Graph tags from the SEO panel No code required, no separate publishing step beyond clicking *Publish Live*. ## Do you handle SSL / HTTPS? Automatically. Every site gets a free SSL certificate that’s issued, renewed, and managed for you. Visitors always see the padlock and `https://` in the address bar. There’s nothing to buy or install. See [SSL and security →](/docs/ssl-and-security) ## What about my custom domain? You can register a new domain through us, or connect one you already own at any registrar (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Hostinger, Wix, Cloudflare, etc.). We give you the exact DNS records to copy, and the cert provisions automatically once they propagate. Full setup, including per-registrar walkthroughs: [Connect a custom domain →](/docs/custom-domain) ## Will connecting my domain affect my email? No. The standard setup only touches the records that route web traffic (a single CNAME). Your existing email records — `MX`, `SPF`, `DKIM`, `DMARC` — stay exactly where they are. Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, your registrar’s mailbox, whatever you use, keeps working. Full breakdown: [Email on your domain →](/docs/email-on-your-domain) ## What if I want to cancel? You can cancel anytime from your dashboard. Your site stays live through the end of your current billing period. We don’t lock you in, and there’s no early-termination fee. If you want to keep using your domain elsewhere, the one-click export gives you the full HTML to host anywhere. ## Is there support if I get stuck? Yes. Email [support@webegg.ai](mailto:support@webegg.ai) and you’ll get a real human reply, usually same day. We also keep this [docs site](/docs) with step-by-step guides for the most common questions. [← Back to all docs](/docs) --- [← All docs](/docs) # Connect a custom domain A two-step setup at your domain registrar that takes 2–5 minutes. Your existing email keeps working. **Two ways to connect.** This page covers the **CNAME** method (works with every registrar). For ~30% faster image loading, our recommended path is **Full DNS**, which involves changing your nameservers. See [Full DNS vs CNAME — which should I pick?](/docs/full-dns-vs-cname) for the trade-offs. ## What you’ll do 1. Add **one DNS record** at your registrar so `www.yourdomain.com` points to your site. 1. Set up **URL forwarding** at your registrar so `yourdomain.com` (without the www) redirects to `https://www.yourdomain.com`. That’s it. We handle SSL certificates automatically once DNS propagates. **Where to get the value for Step 1.** The exact `CNAME` target for your site is shown in your dashboard under *Domains → Your Domains* when your domain status is *AWAITING DNS*. Copy and paste it from there — every site has its own unique target. ## Step 1 — Add the CNAME record In your registrar’s DNS panel, add one record: ``` Type: CNAME Name: www Value: TTL: Automatic (or 300 / 5 minutes) ``` Save the record. Don’t add anything for the bare domain (`@`) here — the forwarding step handles that. ## Step 2 — Set up URL forwarding In your registrar’s *Web Forwarding*, *URL Redirect*, or *Domain Forwarding* panel (the exact name varies by registrar), add a forward: ``` From: yourdomain.com To: https://www.yourdomain.com Type: 301 (Permanent) ``` This makes `yourdomain.com` redirect to the www version. Visitors who type the bare domain in their browser still land on your site — the redirect happens before they see anything. ## Step 3 — (Optional) clean up old records If you previously had an `A` or `ALIAS` record on `@` (the bare domain), you can delete it now. The Step 2 forwarding handles that route. Leave any `MX`, `TXT`, `SPF`, `DKIM`, and `DMARC` records alone — those handle your email and stay exactly where they are. ## Registrar walkthroughs ### Hostinger 1. Log into Hostinger → **Domains** → click your domain. 1. **DNS / Nameservers** → **Manage DNS records** → *Add new record*. Fill in `CNAME` / `www` / the value from your dashboard. Save. 1. Back on the domain page, find **Web Forwarding** (in the left sidebar) → *Add new forwarding*. Forward your bare domain to `https://www.yourdomain.com`, type 301. Save. ### GoDaddy 1. Log into GoDaddy → **My Products** → **DNS** next to your domain. 1. Under *DNS Records*, click **Add**. Choose `CNAME`, name `www`, value from your dashboard. Save. 1. Scroll to **Forwarding** → click *Add* under *Domain*. Forward to `https://www.yourdomain.com`, type *Permanent (301)*. Save. ### Namecheap 1. Log into Namecheap → **Domain List** → *Manage* next to your domain. 1. Open the **Advanced DNS** tab. *Add new record* → `CNAME Record` → host `www` → value from your dashboard. Save. 1. Open the **Domain** tab. Under *Redirect Domain*, click *Add Redirect*. Source: bare domain. Destination: `https://www.yourdomain.com`. Permanent (301). Save. ### Squarespace Domains / Google Domains 1. Open the **DNS** tab. Add a `CNAME` record: host `www`, value from your dashboard. 1. Open the **Website settings** or **Forwarding** tab. Forward the bare domain to `https://www.yourdomain.com` with a 301. ### Cloudflare (you already use Cloudflare for DNS) Cloudflare flattens CNAMEs at the apex automatically, so you don’t need the forwarding step: 1. Add a `CNAME` record: name `www`, target from your dashboard. Make sure the proxy (orange cloud) is **off**. 1. Add a second `CNAME` record: name `@`, target from your dashboard. Proxy **off**. ## When will it go live? Most setups go live within **5–30 minutes**. The dashboard shows `AWAITING DNS` until DNS propagates, then switches to `LIVE`. SSL certificates are issued automatically as soon as the DNS record is verified — you don’t buy or install anything. If it’s been more than an hour, see [Troubleshooting](/docs/troubleshooting-domain). ## Why www and not the bare domain? It’s a technical limitation that affects every modern hosting platform — Squarespace, Vercel, Netlify, GitHub Pages, all of them. The bare domain (`yourdomain.com` with no `www`) can’t accept the same kind of DNS record that the www version can. The universal workaround is URL forwarding, which is why Step 2 exists. From your visitors’ perspective it doesn’t matter — they type whichever form they want, and they end up on the same site. [← Back to all docs](/docs) --- [← All docs](/docs) # Full DNS vs CNAME — which should I pick? When you connect a domain to WebEgg, you choose how it’s connected. Two options, both work, one is noticeably faster. Here’s the short version: **pick Full DNS unless your registrar won’t let you change nameservers.** ## The short answer | Question | Full DNS | Just CNAME | | --- | --- | --- | | Setup time | ~5 min | ~1 min | | SSL certificate | Instant, auto-renewed | Same, sometimes slower to provision (~5–30 min) | | Image loading speed | ~30% faster (WebP/AVIF at the edge) | Fast (we still compress on upload) | | DDoS protection | Included | Included (via Cloudflare Pages edge) | | Works with Wix-locked domains | No | Yes | | Reversible | Yes — switch nameservers back anytime | Yes — delete the CNAME anytime | If you don’t recognize what nameservers are or you’re worried about touching them, the safe answer is **Just CNAME** — your site will be fast either way. ## What’s actually different under the hood **CNAME mode** keeps your domain’s DNS at your existing registrar (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Wix, etc.). You add one record there that says “send `www.yourdomain.com` traffic to WebEgg.” That’s it. Your registrar still manages everything else — email records, any other subdomains, your DNSSEC settings if you have them. **Full DNS mode** moves your domain’s entire DNS to Cloudflare (managed by us). The registrar still owns your domain — you keep paying them for renewals — but they no longer answer DNS questions about it. Cloudflare does. That handoff is what unlocks the optimizations. ## Will my email break? No. This is the most-asked question and the answer is “no, we handle it specifically.” Here’s what happens during a Full DNS upgrade, step by step: 1. Before you change anything, we scan your **current** DNS to find every email-related record — `MX`, `SPF`, `DKIM`, `DMARC`, plus any subdomains like `mail.yourdomain.com` or `smtp.yourdomain.com`. 1. We copy each one into our Cloudflare account, exactly as you had them. 1. *Then* you change your nameservers at your registrar. 1. When DNS propagates (5–30 min), the new nameservers start answering — with the same email records you had before. From Gmail’s / Outlook’s / your customers’ perspective, nothing changes. Email keeps flowing to the same provider. We never touch your inbox — we just move where your *routing instructions* are stored. **If you don’t use email on this domain at all** (you only use Gmail at `yourname@gmail.com` for example), there’s nothing to migrate. The pre-scan will show no MX records and we skip that step. ## What if I have a custom email setup like Mailchimp or SendGrid? Same answer — the pre-scan picks up **SPF** records (which list services allowed to send email as you), and the DKIM TXT records that those services give you to authenticate outgoing mail. We auto-detect the standard selectors for these providers: - Google Workspace — `google._domainkey` - Microsoft 365 / Outlook — `selector1._domainkey`, `selector2._domainkey` - Mailchimp — `k1._domainkey` - Resend — `resend._domainkey` - Mailgun, SendGrid, Amazon SES, Zoho, Fastmail — their standard selectors If your provider uses an unusual selector, the upgrade flow will **warn** you that we couldn’t auto-detect DKIM. You can either copy the record manually into the new zone, or just use CNAME mode instead. ## How do I actually pick? When you click **Connect a custom domain** on your dashboard, you’ll see two cards side by side. Click the one you want. The Full DNS card kicks off the pre-scan + zone creation; the CNAME card just shows you the record to add at your registrar. You can also switch later — existing customers see an “Advanced settings” link on each domain row in the dashboard with an “Upgrade to Full DNS” button. ## What if I change my mind? To go from **Full DNS → CNAME**: change your nameservers back to your registrar’s defaults (they usually have a “Use registrar nameservers” button), then add the CNAME record we give you on the dashboard. Takes ~10 minutes total. To go from **CNAME → Full DNS**: use the “Advanced settings” link on your domain row in the dashboard. We’ll guide you the same way as a new setup. Your CNAME stays active the entire time, so there’s no downtime — the nameserver change just happens in parallel. ## Per-registrar setup walkthroughs The dashboard’s Full DNS flow includes step-by-step instructions for the 8 most common registrars (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Squarespace, Hostinger, Wix, Cloudflare, name.com, Other). You’ll see them automatically after you click *Set up Full DNS*. ## Still stuck? Email [support@webegg.ai](mailto:support@webegg.ai) with your domain name and a screenshot of your registrar’s DNS panel. We’ll respond same day. [← Back to all docs](/docs) --- [← All docs](/docs) # SSL, certificates, and how your site stays secure Short version: we handle it. There’s nothing to buy, install, or renew. ## SSL certificates Every site published on WebEgg gets a free, automatic SSL certificate — including when you connect your own domain. You’ll see the padlock in the browser, and the URL shows `https://`. - **Auto-issued.** The certificate provisions automatically as soon as your DNS records propagate. - **Auto-renewed.** Certificates renew on their own. You never have to touch them. - **No extra cost.** Included in every plan, on every connected domain. ## Where your site is hosted Sites are served from a global content delivery network (CDN), which means visitors anywhere in the world load your site quickly. The CDN automatically caches your pages at edge locations close to your visitors and absorbs traffic spikes without you doing anything. ## What we do to protect your account - **Per-site isolation.** Every customer’s site is published to its own isolated environment. Domains and content can never cross between accounts. - **Owner-only editing.** Only the logged-in owner can edit, publish, or change settings on a site. Anyone else who knows the link sees only the public published page, never the editor. - **Encrypted everywhere.** Traffic between your visitors and your site is HTTPS-encrypted end-to-end. The editor portal is also HTTPS-only. - **Daily backups.** Your site content and settings are backed up daily. If anything ever goes wrong, we can restore from a recent backup. ## What you should do - **Use a strong password** on your WebEgg account, especially if you’ve set up payments or have a custom domain connected. - **Don’t share your login.** If multiple people need access, use the *Team* feature in your dashboard so each person has their own login. - **If a form on your site collects sensitive data** (medical info, financial info, etc.), let us know — we’ll help you set up the right protections. ## Reporting a security issue If you think you’ve found a security problem, email [support@webegg.ai](mailto:support@webegg.ai) with the subject “Security report.” We respond within one business day. Please don’t post security issues publicly — give us a chance to fix it first. [← Back to all docs](/docs) --- [← All docs](/docs) # DNS changes: timing and what to expect After you save a DNS record at your registrar, there’s a delay before the rest of the internet sees it. Here’s how to think about that delay. ## Typical timing `` | What | Usually | Worst case | | --- | --- | --- | | Adding a new CNAME record | 5–30 minutes | 24–48 hours | | Setting up URL forwarding | Almost instant | 30 minutes | | Changing nameservers | 1–6 hours | 48 hours | | Updating an existing record | 5 minutes — 1 hour | 24 hours (depending on the old TTL) | ## Why the delay? DNS is cached at many layers between your registrar and any given visitor — your ISP’s resolver, the visitor’s router, their browser, sometimes even their phone. Each of those caches expires on its own schedule (the *TTL* — time to live). You can’t force a cache clear globally. The internet just has to age out the old record. ## How to check if your record is live Open [dnschecker.org](https://dnschecker.org), type your domain, and pick the record type (`CNAME` for www, `A` for the bare domain). It pings DNS servers across the world and shows you which ones have the new value. Once most of the world sees the new value, your dashboard will show your domain as `LIVE` within a few minutes. ## What if it’s been more than an hour? That usually means the record didn’t save correctly, the name or value has a typo, or there’s a conflicting record (for example, an `A` record on the same host blocking the new `CNAME`). Check the [troubleshooting guide](/docs/troubleshooting-domain) or email [support@webegg.ai](mailto:support@webegg.ai). ## A note about browser cache If you tested your domain right after adding the record and saw an error page, your browser may have cached it. Try: - An incognito / private window - A different browser - Your phone on cellular (not Wi-Fi — bypasses your ISP’s cache) [← Back to all docs](/docs) --- [← All docs](/docs) # My domain isn’t working — troubleshooting Common things that go wrong, and what to do about each. If none of these match, email [support@webegg.ai](mailto:support@webegg.ai) with your domain name and a screenshot of the error. ## “This site can’t provide a secure connection” / SSL error **Most likely cause:** you typed the bare domain (`yourdomain.com`) but the SSL certificate hasn’t been issued there yet — usually because you skipped the URL forwarding step. Try the `www` version: `https://www.yourdomain.com`. If that works, you just need to add URL forwarding for the bare domain (Step 2 of the [Connect a custom domain](/docs/custom-domain) guide). **Less likely cause:** the DNS record was added very recently and the certificate is still being issued. Wait 15–30 minutes and try again. ## “Cloudflare Error 1001” / “DNS resolution error” Same root cause as the SSL error above — you’re visiting the bare domain but it isn’t set up to serve traffic. Set up URL forwarding from the bare domain to the www version (Step 2 in the [setup guide](/docs/custom-domain)). ## “DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN” / “This site can’t be reached” Your browser can’t find the domain at all. Two possibilities: - **The DNS record hasn’t saved or hasn’t propagated.** Check at [dnschecker.org](https://dnschecker.org) — type your domain, set the type to `CNAME`, and look up `www.yourdomain.com`. If it’s missing globally, the record didn’t save. Re-add it at your registrar. - **You typo’d the domain.** Worth double-checking. ## www works but the bare domain doesn’t (or vice versa) You probably did Step 1 (the `CNAME www` record) but skipped Step 2 (the URL forwarding). Go back to your registrar and set up the forwarding for the bare domain. ## Dashboard says “AWAITING DNS” for over an hour That usually means one of: - The `CNAME` record at your registrar has a typo — double-check the value against what’s shown in your dashboard. - You added the record under the wrong hostname — it should be `www`, not `@` or the full domain. - There’s a conflicting `A` record on `www` blocking the `CNAME`. Most registrars warn you about this; if not, delete the `A` record and the `CNAME` should take effect. ## My old domain works for a few hours, then breaks This usually means DNS still has a cached pointer to your old site. Wait it out — the cache expires based on the old record’s TTL (usually 1–24 hours). Once it expires, the new record takes over and your site stabilizes. ## Email stopped working after I connected the domain This shouldn’t happen with the standard setup (we don’t touch email records). But if you changed nameservers as part of an unrelated change, your `MX` and `TXT` records may have been left behind. See the [email guide](/docs/email-on-your-domain), then email [support@webegg.ai](mailto:support@webegg.ai) — we can help you recover the records. ## I see the wrong content on my domain Try an incognito / private window first — browsers cache aggressively and may be showing you an old version. Also try your phone on cellular (not Wi-Fi). If the content is still wrong after that, email us with the domain and a screenshot. ## None of the above Email [support@webegg.ai](mailto:support@webegg.ai) with: - Your domain name - What you see in the browser (a screenshot is perfect) - Whether `www.yourdomain.com` works (yes / no) - Whether `yourdomain.com` (no www) works (yes / no) We respond same day. [← Back to all docs](/docs) --- [← All docs](/docs) # Will connecting my domain affect my email? Short answer: **no, if you follow the standard setup.** The two steps in the [Connect a custom domain](/docs/custom-domain) guide don’t touch any email-related DNS records. ## How email and websites coexist on the same domain Your domain’s DNS settings include separate records for different purposes: - `CNAME` and `A` records point web traffic to a server — that’s us. - `MX` records point email traffic to your mail provider (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Hostinger Mail, Zoho, etc.). - `TXT` records hold supporting info (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) that proves your email is legitimate. Connecting your domain to WebEgg means adding a single web-traffic record (`CNAME www`) and setting up URL forwarding. Your `MX` and `TXT` records keep doing exactly what they were doing. ## What NOT to do **Don’t change your nameservers** unless you’re intentionally moving DNS to a new provider AND you’ve copied over all your existing records (especially `MX` and `TXT`). Changing nameservers wipes the slate — any record not present at the new provider stops working, and email can start bouncing within minutes. ## Setting up email after you’ve connected your domain If you don’t yet have email on your domain and want to add it, you can do that any time — before or after connecting your site to WebEgg. The two are independent: 1. Sign up with an email provider (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Zoho Mail, your registrar’s mail service, etc.). 1. The provider gives you `MX` and `TXT` records to add at your registrar. 1. Add those records alongside the `CNAME www` record you added for WebEgg. They don’t conflict. ## Checking your current email setup Before you change anything, you can see your current email configuration at [mxtoolbox.com](https://mxtoolbox.com) — type your domain and run the *MX Lookup*. If you see entries pointing to your mail provider, your email is set up and will keep working through the WebEgg connection. [← Back to all docs](/docs) --- [← All docs](/docs) # Edit your site from Claude or ChatGPT Your WebEgg site has an MCP server and a REST API. Connect it to the assistant you already pay for and ask it to change your website in plain language. Edits made this way use **your assistant’s** plan, not WebEgg AI credits — WebEgg only applies the change and republishes. ## 1. Get your connector URL In your [dashboard](/dashboard), open the **API & Connectors** tab and press **Generate key**. You’ll see two things: - **Your MCP connector URL** — `https://webegg.ai/mcp/we_…` (the key is part of the address; treat it like a password). - **Your API key** — `we_…`, for the REST API and ChatGPT Actions. Regenerating the key invalidates the old URL immediately. ## 2a. Claude (claude.ai, desktop and mobile) 1. Open **Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector** (on Team/Enterprise an owner adds it under Organization settings → Connectors). 1. Name it *WebEgg*, paste your MCP connector URL, and choose Authentication **No sign-in**. (Your key is in the URL, so nothing else is needed. Don’t add `/sse` to the address.) 1. In a new chat, open the **+** menu → Connectors, switch WebEgg on, and ask: *“List my WebEgg sites, then change the phone number on the contact section of Rise and Shine to (661) 555-0142 and publish.”* Approve the edit when Claude asks. **Claude Code** (terminal), with the key as a header instead: ``` claude mcp add --transport http webegg https://webegg.ai/mcp \ --header "Authorization: Bearer we_YOUR_KEY" ``` ## 2b. ChatGPT **Connector (MCP):** turn on **Settings → Security and login → Developer mode**, then open **Apps → +** (chatgpt.com/plugins), name it *WebEgg*, and paste your MCP connector URL as the public endpoint with authentication *None*. In a new chat, pick WebEgg from the tools menu under Developer mode and ask for the change; confirm write actions when prompted. Developer mode needs a paid plan, and on Business/Enterprise an admin has to enable it. Write actions may be read-only on some plans — if so, use Actions below. **Custom GPT (Actions):** when creating a GPT, choose **Actions → Import from URL** and paste `https://webegg.ai/api/v1/openapi.json`. Set authentication to *API Key*, auth type *Bearer*, and paste your API key. ## What the assistant can do ```````````````````` | Tool | What it does | | --- | --- | | list_sites | Your sites with live and preview links. | | get_site | The brief behind a site: business facts, pages, open to-do items. | | get_page / find_in_page | Read a page’s HTML, or search it for a phrase with context. | | replace_in_page | Precise find → replace edits (one or many) — the safe way to change copy, numbers, links. | | set_page_html | Replace a whole page (guarded: must stay a real page of similar size). | | undo_last_change | Restore the previous version of a page. | | list_setup_tasks / complete_setup_task | The “Finish your site” list from onboarding (license number, hours, real reviews…). | | publish | Push the saved pages live (preview link and your custom domain). | Changes are saved to your site immediately but only go live when you (or the assistant) call **publish**. Every page write keeps a one-step backup. ## Limits and billing - Available on every claimed account. Free accounts keep their free-edit limit; paid plans are unlimited. - Connector edits cost **zero WebEgg AI credits**. Your assistant does the thinking; WebEgg does deterministic HTML edits and deploys. - Rate limit: 300 write operations per hour per key. Reads are not limited. - Anyone holding your connector URL or API key can edit your site. Regenerate it from the dashboard if it leaks. ## REST API (for scripts) ``` GET https://webegg.ai/api/v1/sites GET https://webegg.ai/api/v1/sites/{lead_id} GET https://webegg.ai/api/v1/sites/{lead_id}/pages/{page} PUT https://webegg.ai/api/v1/sites/{lead_id}/pages/{page} {"html": "..."} POST https://webegg.ai/api/v1/sites/{lead_id}/pages/{page}/replace {"edits": [{"find": "...", "replace": "..."}]} POST https://webegg.ai/api/v1/sites/{lead_id}/publish GET https://webegg.ai/api/v1/sites/{lead_id}/tasks POST https://webegg.ai/api/v1/sites/{lead_id}/tasks {"key": "license_number", "value": "CSLB #1012345"} Authorization: Bearer we_YOUR_KEY ``` Full schema: [/api/v1/openapi.json](/api/v1/openapi.json) (OpenAPI 3.1). --- LEGAL # Privacy Policy Effective date: May 17, 2026  ·  Operated by Modern Media LLC ## 1. WHO WE ARE Modern Media LLC ("we", "us", "our") operates WebEgg, an AI-powered website builder. This policy explains what data we collect when you use WebEgg, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data. Contact: [support@webegg.ai](mailto:support@webegg.ai) ## 2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT ******************************** | Data | When collected | Purpose | | --- | --- | --- | | Business brief — business name, description, services, location, style preferences | When you fill out the website builder form | Generating your website | | Contact info — name, email, phone, address | When you submit the funnel | Sending your preview link; included in your website content | | Account credentials — email, password (hashed) | When you create an account | Authentication and account management | | Payment info — billing details, subscription status | When you subscribe to a paid plan | Processing payments via Stripe (we never store raw card data) | | Uploaded images — logo, business photos | If you upload them during setup | Including them in your generated website | | Page views — anonymised IP hash, page visited, timestamp | When visitors view your published website | Providing you with basic analytics | | Contact form submissions — fields submitted by your website visitors | When a visitor fills out a contact form on your site | Forwarding to you and storing in your dashboard inbox | | AI edit history — edit prompts and responses | When you use the AI editor | Generating edits and maintaining edit count | ## 3. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION - To generate, host, and serve your website - To send you your preview link and account-related emails - To process payments and manage your subscription - To forward contact form submissions from your site visitors to you - To provide you with page view analytics - To measure the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns (Meta Ads conversion tracking) - To improve the Service (aggregate, anonymised usage data only) ## 4. ADVERTISING & ANALYTICS — META PIXEL **WebEgg uses the Meta Pixel** (operated by Meta Platforms, Inc.) on our marketing pages and funnel. The Pixel collects information about your visit — including the pages you view, buttons you click ("Lead", "CompleteRegistration", "Purchase"), your IP address, browser type, and a Meta user identifier if you are signed in to Facebook or Instagram in the same browser. This information is shared with Meta to: - Measure the effectiveness of our advertising on Facebook and Instagram - Show you relevant ads on Meta's platforms (retargeting) - Build Lookalike Audiences from people who engage with WebEgg **Under CCPA (California) and CPRA**, sharing data with Meta for cross-context behavioural advertising is considered "sharing" of personal information. California residents have the right to opt out — see ["Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information"](#do-not-sell) below. **Under GDPR (EU/UK)**, this processing relies on your consent. EU/UK visitors will see a cookie consent banner before the Pixel loads. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing cookies or via the consent banner. You can also opt out of Meta advertising directly in your [Facebook Ad Preferences](https://www.facebook.com/adpreferences) or your operating system's "Limit Ad Tracking" / "Ask App Not to Track" settings. ## 5. BEHAVIOURAL ANALYTICS — MICROSOFT CLARITY **WebEgg uses Microsoft Clarity** (operated by Microsoft Corporation) on our marketing pages and funnel to understand how visitors actually interact with the Service. Clarity captures: - Page views, click positions, scroll depth, and rage-click signals - Anonymised session replays of mouse movement, scroll, and clicks — recorded as a structural reconstruction of the page, not a video - Approximate location (country / region), device, browser, and operating system **What we mask from Clarity:** we explicitly mark the following as sensitive so they are never captured: passwords, email addresses, phone numbers, postal addresses, personal names (e.g. partner / honoree / contact names), business names, and free-text personal narratives in the funnel (e.g. love story, wedding notes, gift message, AI direction notes, testimonials). Payment card details enter via Stripe Elements in a sandboxed iframe and are not visible to Clarity at all. This data is shared with Microsoft to provide us with usage insights, heatmaps, and session replays. We use it solely to improve the Service — not for advertising. Microsoft retains the data per its [Privacy Statement](https://privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement) and the [Clarity Terms of Service](https://clarity.microsoft.com/terms). **Under CCPA / CPRA**, Clarity is used for analytics — not for cross-context behavioural advertising — so it does not constitute "sale" or "sharing". We nonetheless honour the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal and disable Clarity for any visitor whose browser sends it. **Under GDPR (EU/UK)**, this processing relies on your consent. EU/UK visitors will see a cookie consent banner before Clarity loads. ## 6. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES We use the following third-party services to operate WebEgg. Each has its own privacy policy: ************************************ | Service | Purpose | Data shared | | --- | --- | --- | | Meta (Facebook) Pixel | Conversion tracking + retargeting ads | Page views, button clicks, IP, browser fingerprint, Meta cookie ID | | Microsoft Clarity | Behavioural analytics, heatmaps, session replay | Page interactions, click positions, anonymised session reconstructions (PII fields masked) | | Stripe | Payment processing | Billing info, email, last 4 of card | | Cloudflare Pages | Website hosting & CDN | Your published website files, visitor IP (for security) | | Resend | Transactional email | Email address, message content | | Porkbun / Name.com | Domain registration | Name, email, address (registrant info — public WHOIS unless privacy enabled) | | Anthropic / OpenRouter | AI website generation and editing | Your business brief and edit prompts | | Pexels / Unsplash | Stock photography | Search keywords from your brief | | Railway | Backend hosting | All application data (processor only — does not access content) | ## 7. COOKIES & TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES We use the following cookies and similar technologies: - **Session cookie (essential):** Keeps you logged in. Cannot be disabled without losing access to the Service. - **Language preference cookie (essential):** Remembers your selected funnel language for 90 days. - **Meta Pixel cookies (advertising — opt-out available):** Set by Meta to track ad performance and enable retargeting. These are third-party cookies set by `connect.facebook.net`. - **Microsoft Clarity cookies (analytics — opt-out available):** `_clck` and `_clsk`, set by `clarity.ms` to associate page views into a session and produce heatmaps. Auto-disabled under GPC. You can block third-party cookies in your browser settings. Blocking them will not affect WebEgg functionality but will opt you out of Meta retargeting. ## 8. DO NOT SELL OR SHARE MY PERSONAL INFORMATION (CCPA) California residents have the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under the CCPA / CPRA. While we do not sell personal information for monetary consideration, our use of the Meta Pixel may qualify as "sharing" under California law (cross-context behavioural advertising). To opt out: - Email [privacy@webegg.ai](mailto:privacy@webegg.ai?subject=Do%20Not%20Sell%20or%20Share) with subject "Do Not Sell or Share". We will record your opt-out and disable the Meta Pixel for your account. - Or enable your browser's Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal — we honour it automatically and it disables both Meta Pixel and Microsoft Clarity for your session. - Or clear and block third-party cookies for `facebook.net` in your browser. ## 9. DATA RETENTION - **Active accounts:** Data is retained for as long as your account is active. - **After cancellation:** We retain your data for 30 days, then permanently delete it. DATA SECURITY We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords (bcrypt), restricted database access, and CVE-patched dependencies. However, no system is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security. ## 11. YOUR RIGHTS Regardless of where you live, you have the right to: - **Access** the personal data we hold about you - **Correct** inaccurate data (via your dashboard or by emailing us) - **Delete** your account and associated data (via Settings → Delete Account) - **Export** your website files at any time - **Opt out** of marketing emails (one-click unsubscribe link in every marketing email) - **Opt out** of Meta Pixel tracking (see Section 7) **California residents (CCPA / CPRA):** You also have the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete it, the right to correct inaccurate data, the right to limit use of sensitive information, and the right to opt out of sharing for cross-context behavioural advertising (see Section 7). You may designate an authorised agent to make requests on your behalf. **EU / UK residents (GDPR):** You also have the right to data portability, the right to object to processing, the right to restrict processing, the right to withdraw consent, and the right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority (e.g. [ICO](https://ico.org.uk) in the UK). To exercise any of these rights, email [privacy@webegg.ai](mailto:privacy@webegg.ai). We will respond within 30 days (CCPA) or one month (GDPR). ## 12.
