Will connecting my domain affect my email?

Short answer: no, if you follow the standard setup. The two steps in the Connect a custom domain guide don’t touch any email-related DNS records.

How email and websites coexist on the same domain

Your domain’s DNS settings include separate records for different purposes:

Connecting your domain to WebEgg means adding a single web-traffic record (CNAME www) and setting up URL forwarding. Your MX and TXT records keep doing exactly what they were doing.

What NOT to do

Don’t change your nameservers unless you’re intentionally moving DNS to a new provider AND you’ve copied over all your existing records (especially MX and TXT). Changing nameservers wipes the slate — any record not present at the new provider stops working, and email can start bouncing within minutes.

Setting up email after you’ve connected your domain

If you don’t yet have email on your domain and want to add it, you can do that any time — before or after connecting your site to WebEgg. The two are independent:

  1. Sign up with an email provider (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Zoho Mail, your registrar’s mail service, etc.).
  2. The provider gives you MX and TXT records to add at your registrar.
  3. Add those records alongside the CNAME www record you added for WebEgg. They don’t conflict.

Checking your current email setup

Before you change anything, you can see your current email configuration at mxtoolbox.com — type your domain and run the MX Lookup. If you see entries pointing to your mail provider, your email is set up and will keep working through the WebEgg connection.
